The Mars Reconaissance Orbiter is reaching a critical point today, with engineers and scientists hoping and praying that the craft begins a critical burn to slow it's speed as it approcahes the planet. If all goes as planned, the orbiter should begin studying planet surface by November of this year. It will join three other orbiters currently circulating the planet.
Currently, the two surveyors that NASA sent 2 years ago are still functioning, and are way past their warranty dates. Spirit and Opportunity were only supposed to last weeks, and they are continuing to beam back images and data about the surface of what many believe could be a hospitable planet for humankind, eventually.
